You have heard it before, 20% of the membership for an all-volunteer organization does 80% of the work. Yet, “many hands make light work!” This year, my focus as Committee Chair will be to change this statistic for our Pack. Quite simply the old World War I Uncle Sam phrase, “WE WANT YOU!” applies here. Look for me to reach out to each of you this coming year to see how you can get involved. We currently have the following leadership needs:

    • Activity Coordinator- assists the Cubmaster in planning outdoor activities, promotes Day Camp/Webelos Resident Camp, helps develop the safety plan for all outdoor activities (i.e. First Aid, Safe Swim Defense, etc.)

  • Equipment Coordinator- assists the Pack Secretary in maintaining an accurate inventory of all pack equipment, maintains pack equipment, and advises the Pack committee on Pack equipment needs.

  • Membership Coordinator- assists the Committee Chair in preparing annual recharter paperwork, promotes the recharter process with the Pack members, works with Cubmaster and Pack Committee to develop a year-round membership growth plan, and visits with new families to answer any questions and to emphasize the importance of parent/guardian participation in Cub Scouting.

    • Public Relations Coordinator- responsible for promoting family participation in all pack events, circulates recruiting fliers and leaflets through appropriate channels (i.e. McKamy Elementary, Homeschool groups, etc.), develops and publishes a monthly pack newsletter to create a feeling of unity among the Pack family, and promotes Pack activities/accomplishments through proper news media (Pack Facebook page, website, and traditional news media).

    • Blue & Gold Committee- comprised of 2-3 parents responsible for planning and promoting our Pack’s annual Blue and Gold celebration. Committee makes recommends Blue and Gold themes to the Pack committee, designs and prints invitations/tickets, organizes catered meal, prepares gift bags given to all Scouts attending Blue and Gold.

I also want to introduce, recognize, and thank our new leaders for stepping up and helping with the following areas! Please be sure to meet these new leaders and thank them for their service to the pack!

    • Mrs. Susan Rogers- Pack Secretary. Many of you already know Susan, as she was the Den 5 den leader for the past 2 years. Susan’s youngest son, David, will be joining our Tiger Den this year. Susan also has 3 older sons that have been in the Scouting program.

    • Mr. Nick Friemel- Pack Treasurer. Nick is taking over this year for Nicole Stewart, who has faithfully served the pack as treasurer since her son was a Tiger. Nick’s son, Tommy, is in the Webelos I Den. Since the Friemel family joined our pack last year, you’ve seen them at many of our events, helping with Blue and Gold, Pinewood Derby, Camping, and many other events!

    • Mrs. Carla Craycraft and Mrs. Marithza Alonso- Popcorn Kernels. Our awesome Bear Den parents have stepped up in a huge way this year in helping to ensure our popcorn sales are a success. As you know, our popcorn fundraiser is our most important fundraiser of the year and is what helps us to provide a year-round Scouting program at a reasonable cost. You will see and hear a lot from them in the next few months as the unit kicks off our Popcorn sales.

It may from time to time look like the leaders know what we are doing. Our secret is that we don’t! This is why we need YOUR help. Step in, have an impact, and join a great group of people who are simply trying to provide all of our Scouts with an awesome Scouting Adventure. If you’d like to offer a suggestion or want to volunteer for one of the open positions, contact the Committee Chair at committeechair@pack693.org.
