Flag Retirements at Camp
At our campouts, Pack 693 respectfully retires flags for any organizations who have an American flag that is faded, ripped, dirty, or in disrepair. We do so following the United States Flag Code. If you know of any company or agency that needs to have their flags retired, please let our Cubmaster know, so she can arrange for us to take care of this for them.
The United States Flag Code also establishes advisory rules for display and care for the flag of the United States of America. It is Chapter 1 of Title 4 of the United States Code. This is a U.S. federal law, but there is no penalty for failure to comply with it and it is not widely enforced, as the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that punitive enforcement would conflict with the First Amendment right to freedom of speech. This etiquette is as applied within U.S. jurisdiction. In other countries and places, local etiquette applies.
The flag should always be displayed on the following holidays:
New Year's Day, January 1st
Inauguration Day, January 20th
Birthday of The Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., 3rd Monday in January
Birthday of the 16th American President: Abraham Lincoln, February 12th
Birthday of the 1st American President: George Washington, 3rd Monday in February
Birthdays of States, March 2nd for Texas
Pascha/Easter Sunday, variable - between March 22nd and April 25
Mother's Day, 2nd Sunday in May
Peace Officers Memorial Day (half-staff), May 15th
Armed Forces Day, 3rd Saturday in May
Memorial Day (half-staff until noon), last Monday in May
Flag Day, June 14th
Father's Day, 2nd Sunday in June
Independence Day, July 4th
Labor Day, 1st Monday in September
Patriots Day (half-staff), September 11th
Constitution Day, September 17th
Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service Day (half-staff), October 8th
Christopher Columbus Arrival in the Americas Day, 2nd Monday in October
Veterans Day, November 11th
Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day (half-staff), December 7th
Nativity of Christ/Christmas Day, December 25th
Any other days proclaimed by the President of the United States of America or the Governor of Texas (or Governor of any other American State or U.S. Territory that you are currently residing in)
During the following Scouting holidays and during all Scouting events it is appropriate to fly the World Scouting flag (always flown lower than the National and State flags as shown to the right):
